Men's Squash Claims Best Ever Finish At Potter Cup

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Drexel University men's squash team earned its best ever finish at the Potter Cup with a 7-2 victory against No. 8 Cornell on Sunday.

With the win, Drexel claimed the top spot in the consolation bracket and placed fifth at the event. The Dragons previous best finish was sixth place in 2017. It is also the first time ever DU won two matches at the College Squash Association's showcase tournament.

Shomari Wiltshire got the Dragons started with an 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 win in the eighth position against Morgan Huberman. Yuri Pelbart made it 2-0 with his 4-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-5 victory versus Spencer Yager at number four.

After Cornell got a point back, Nico Serna made it 3-1 Drexel, rallying for a 9-11, 11-9, 6-11, 12-10, 11-4 win in the second spot against Aaron Liang in a match that lasted an hour and 18 minutes.

With DU up 3-2, Noel Heaton put Drexel on the verge of the overall win, finishing off an unblemished weekend at number seven with a 2-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5 win against Tanay Punjabi. The clinching point came from José López in the third position as he delivered an 11-8, 11-8, 11-5 victory.

Also claiming wins for the Dragons were Fritiof Jacobsson at number five and Matias Knudsen at number one.

With the team portion of its schedule complete, Drexel turns its attention towards the CSA Individual Championships to be held at the Arlen Specter U.S. Squash Center, March 3-5.
